Shameem Rafik-Galea is a Professor of Applied Linguistics at the Faculty of Education, Languages and Psychology, SEGI University Malaysia. She has a PhD in Applied Linguistics & TESOL from the University of Leicester, UK, a Master in TEFL and BA in Linguistics from the University of Southern Illinois, USA. She has more than 35 years of experience as an academic, researcher and administrator. Prior to joining SEGI University, she was attached to University Putra Malaysia (UPM). Shameem works in transdisciplinary research and her area of expertise is within the field of Applied Linguistics and Professional Practices, Languages for Specific Purposes and English language studies. She has published a number of different types of works and has delivered more than 150 papers at international and national conferences including keynotes, plenary and featured speaker papers. In 2015, Shameem was attached to the Danish Institute of Humanities and Medicine, Aalborg University, Denmark and was also a visiting scholar to the Edward De Bono Institute of Thinking, University of Malta. She was formerly an adviser to the NGO- Small Changes, Big Difference where she was involvd in outreach work. Presently, she is the President of the Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics(MAAL) an affiliate of AILA and Editor in Chief of the Malaysian Journal of Applied Linguistics (MJLL). She is a recipient of a number of teaching excellence and research merits awards and continues to engage in national and international transdisciplinary research and outreach programmes.
