Students from the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology at SEGi University Kota Damansara recently organised a two day Fundraising Carnival as part of their coursework for the MPU3432 Co curriculum: Sustainability Thinking subject.
Held on 25 and 26 February 2026 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Dictator Stage, SEGi University, the event was titled Selling of Handcrafts, Pre Loved Books and Organisation of Mini Games. The carnival aimed to raise funds for My Pets Haven Animal Shelter while creating greater awareness of animal welfare within the university community.
Organised by a group of Year 3 students, the initiative transformed the campus space into a lively and meaningful mini carnival. Students and staff were invited to take part in various activities while contributing to a charitable cause that supports the care and wellbeing of rescued animals.
A range of handmade items crafted by the organising team were sold during the event. These included handcrafted flower bouquets, unique sticker packs and handmade beaded bracelets, each designed by the committee members themselves. Pre loved books donated by the organisers were also made available for purchase, encouraging recycling and promoting a culture of sharing resources among students.
To create a more interactive and engaging atmosphere, the students also organised several mini games, including human tic tac toe, mini basketball and cup pong. Participants could also enjoy henna art designs offered by the committee members. These activities provided students with a relaxing break from their academic routines while encouraging social interaction and campus engagement.
The carnival successfully attracted participation from students and visitors across the campus. Beyond fundraising, the event served as a platform to highlight the importance of compassion, animal welfare and community responsibility. All proceeds collected from the sales and games were dedicated to supporting the operations of My Pets Haven Animal Shelter, helping to provide care, food and medical treatment for rescued animals.
Overall, the fundraising carnival demonstrated how student led initiatives can create meaningful impact by combining creativity, sustainability thinking and social responsibility. It also reflected the value of experiential learning, where students apply classroom knowledge to real world causes that benefit the wider community.
