Academic staff and researchers from the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology recently took part in two workshops designed to strengthen their scholarly writing and publication capabilities.
Titled “Enhancing Research Visibility: Scopus Publication Workshop”, the sessions were successfully conducted by Ts. Dr. Nurulazlina Ramli and Ir. Dr. Shamini Janasekaran on 20 and 27 April 2026. Each full-day workshop was attended by 20 participants and ran from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
The workshops were organised to support academics and researchers who were new to journal article writing or seeking clearer guidance on the publication process. Participants were introduced to the steps involved in transforming student Final Year Projects and theses into structured, publishable manuscripts.
The sessions also provided practical guidance on identifying suitable Scopus-indexed journals, verifying journal credibility and selecting publications that align with the scope of a research paper. Participants gained a better understanding of manuscript submission requirements, peer review, revisions and the overall journey from research findings to publication.
Beyond the technical aspects of article writing, the workshops addressed key considerations such as publication strategies, plagiarism awareness and ways to improve the visibility and reach of academic research. These discussions helped participants better understand how strong research communication can contribute to wider knowledge sharing and scholarly impact.
The initiative reflects the Faculty’s commitment to building a stronger research culture by equipping academic staff with practical skills that can be applied to their current and future research work. By encouraging more researchers to publish their findings, the workshops also support the continuous growth of research output and academic collaboration within the institution.
The programme contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It supports SDG 4: Quality Education by enhancing academic writing, research dissemination and publication skills among educators and researchers. It also aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the promotion of research innovation and technological knowledge sharing.
In addition, the collaborative nature of the workshops reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as faculty members came together to exchange knowledge, strengthen academic networks and support the development of a more active research community.
Through initiatives such as these, the Faculty continues to create meaningful opportunities for academics and researchers to improve their publication confidence, increase research visibility and contribute more effectively to the wider body of scholarly knowledge.
