ICCEI 2024 Conference Drives Impactful Change in Education and Sustainability

The International Conference on Curriculum and Educational Instruction (APROCEI ICCEI) 2024, held from 17-19 May 2024 at the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) in Kuala Lumpur, brought together 145 international and local participants. The event included educators, policymakers, Ministry of Education officers, university lecturers, and students, all aiming to explore the future of education in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

With 14 keynote speakers from across the globe, the conference tackled key educational challenges through the lens of sustainability and resilience. Notable speakers included Dr Ji Lili from UNESCO IBE in Geneva, Prof Saedah Siraj from Universiti Malaya, and Dr Janchai Yingprayoon from Thailand. These experts, alongside others, addressed themes like building sustainability thinking in education, overcoming adversity in learning, and character education. The conference also featured panel discussions chaired by Datin Dr Ng Soo Boon from SEGi University, showcasing SEGi’s leadership role in global educational discourse.

A series of SDG-related workshops were conducted, focusing on climate change education, STEM competence, and generative AI in education, emphasising the need to incorporate innovative approaches in modern curriculums. One workshop, “Building STEM competence the fun way,” linked directly to SDG 4: Quality Education, highlighting the importance of interactive learning in shaping future generations. UNESCO data states that education is key to achieving all 17 SDGs, making events like these crucial in fostering global progress.

With 36 paper presentations from local and international scholars, the event provided a platform for sharing cutting-edge research and promoting collaboration between institutions such as SEGi University, Universiti Malaya, and the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation. These partnerships reinforce the importance of cross-border educational exchange in addressing global challenges like learning loss and humanising education.

The APROCEI ICCEI 2024 conference not only contributed to global conversations around education but also solidified SEGi University’s commitment to academic excellence and social responsibility. By aligning its educational initiatives with the SDGs, SEGi continues to drive positive change, preparing students to become leaders in a sustainable future.
