Civil Engineering Students Lead the Future of Sustainable Construction

Students from the Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honours programme at SEGi University recently embarked on an educational trip to the Malaysia International Construction & Infrastructure Technology Exhibition (MBAM OneBuild) on 29 August 2024, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This half-day visit was designed to enhance their learning and provide exposure to the latest advancements in the construction and infrastructure sectors. The trip forms part of SEGi University’s commitment to sustainability, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to promote resilient infrastructure, inclusive industrialisation, and innovation.

During the exhibition, students explored the newest technologies, products, and solutions currently shaping the construction industry. This hands-on experience is invaluable to their academic and professional development, bridging the gap between theory and real-world applications. They gained practical insights into innovations that will play a crucial role in their future careers, particularly in a field as rapidly evolving as Civil Engineering.

A major highlight of the exhibition was the focus on sustainable construction practices. Students engaged with exhibitors showcasing eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient technologies that reduce the environmental impact of construction. With global construction generating around 39% of carbon emissions, initiatives like these are pivotal to the industry’s transition towards greener solutions. The students were particularly enthusiastic about these sustainable technologies, recognising their importance in supporting the global shift towards environmentally responsible construction.

The visit also emphasised lifelong learning, an essential aspect of professional growth in the dynamic field of Civil Engineering. By attending industry exhibitions, SEGi University students stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies, ensuring they remain competitive and well-prepared to tackle future challenges.

Overall, the MBAM OneBuild exhibition provided a comprehensive, enriching experience for the students. They returned with valuable insights into sustainable construction and cutting-edge technologies, which will undoubtedly support their academic progress and professional aspirations. SEGi University’s continued efforts to expose students to global trends and sustainable practices in the industry reflect its dedication to producing future-ready graduates who are equipped to make a positive impact in their field.
