Prof Datin Dr Mariani Md Nor, a distinguished figure in Early Childhood Education (ECE), currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Languages, Psychology, and Music (FoELPM).

Appointment to Lead ECCE Programme Standards
Recently, Prof Datin Mariani was appointed by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to chair the update of programme standards for Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) across Malaysia. The MQA is responsible for ensuring the quality and standards of higher education institutions in Malaysia. Prof Datin Mariani’s role in this project is crucial, as she will lead efforts to reformulate ECCE standards, ensuring they are in line with contemporary global educational requirements. This role solidifies her influence on the future of early childhood education in the country, shaping the way future educators are trained and certified.
Hosting the ARNEC Conference in Penang
In 2024, Prof Datin Mariani hosted the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Early Childhood Development (ECD) in Penang, bringing together over 500 participants from 48 countries. The conference, supported by UNESCO, UNICEF, and SEGi University & Colleges, focused on the urgency of investing in early childhood development to enhance climate resilience and sustainable development. The event highlighted the critical role that ECD plays in shaping future generations, particularly in addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change and other global crises affecting young children.
