SEGi University Quantity Surveying students made a remarkable impact at the CIDB-CIOB Youth Arena Convention Malaysia (YACM) 2024, held during International Construction Week (ICW) BuildXpo Malaysia on 23-24 October.
With 23 students in attendance, SEGi’s future leaders were exposed to cutting-edge construction technology, AI-driven solutions, automation, and sustainable building practices, enriching their understanding of the industry’s forward momentum. This opportunity allowed SEGi students to witness first-hand the innovations that are transforming construction—boosting project efficiency, enhancing safety, and reducing environmental impact.
In a demonstration of SEGi’s commitment to providing students with relevant and advanced skills, SEGi students actively participated in an AI Quiz competition, collaborating with peers from 11 other universities. Notably, SEGi students were part of every winning team, a testament to their strong knowledge base and adaptability in AI applications within the construction industry. Such achievements underline SEGi’s focus on equipping students with practical, future-oriented skills that are increasingly valued in today’s digital and sustainable economy.
According to a report by McKinsey & Company, digital transformation in construction could increase productivity by up to 14-15%, with AI and automation playing pivotal roles in reducing project delays and improving safety. The global construction industry is projected to grow at an annual rate of 3.9% through 2030, driven by advances in digital and sustainable building practices.
The convention also saw SEGi alumnus Kong Lin Ting receive the Best Student Award, celebrating exceptional contributions to the construction industry. This accolade not only reflects the high-quality education provided by SEGi but also showcases the enduring positive impact SEGi graduates have within their chosen fields. The YACM 2024 convention was an inspiring experience, leaving SEGi students with a clearer understanding of current industry trends, invaluable connections, and a renewed commitment to shaping a sustainable future in construction. As sustainability and innovation become cornerstones of global development, SEGi’s involvement in events like YACM underscores its dedication to aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): SDG 4: Quality Education SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
