SEGi University partnered with IKEA for an exclusive Explore Home Furnishing & Life at Home session on 27 February 2025, turning the IKEA Damansara Showroom Entrance into an inspiring space for creativity and innovation. From 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, students from the Bachelor of Interior Architecture (BIA) programme embarked on an immersive learning experience, gaining first-hand insights into sustainable design, functional aesthetics, and the art of creating purposeful, stylish living spaces.
IKEA, known globally for its commitment to sustainable living, shared expert knowledge on innovative interior solutions that balance functionality and beauty. With the global interior design market expected to reach USD 255.4 billion by 2027 , exposure to industry best practices is crucial for future designers. Students explored eco-conscious furnishing concepts, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable interiors, which account for nearly 20% of all home design projects worldwide.
Collaborations like these bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry expectations. With over 60 million IKEA home visits annually (IKEA Annual Report), the brand’s influence on interior spaces is undeniable. Learning directly from experts in a high-impact retail environment allows students to engage with design trends that shape consumer preferences and drive the future of home living. This hands-on approach enhances their understanding of human-centric spaces while strengthening their ability to incorporate sustainability-driven principles into future projects.
Engagement with industry leaders has been identified as a key driver of career readiness, with 87% of employers valuing practical experience over theoretical knowledge. The experience at IKEA not only deepens students’ understanding of modern home furnishing but also builds critical industry connections, reinforcing SEGi’s commitment to developing graduates who are prepared to excel in competitive global markets.
By integrating sustainability, innovation, and functionality, this event showcased the power of experiential learning in shaping forward-thinking designers. The collaboration reflects SEGi’s dedication to nurturing industry-ready graduates who understand the evolving dynamics of interior spaces and consumer-driven design. With future partnerships on the horizon, SEGi continues to redefine the educational journey, ensuring students gain meaningful experiences that push boundaries and spark innovation.
This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
