International collaboration is a cornerstone of academic and research excellence, and SEGi University has taken another significant step towards expanding its global footprint. On 24 February 2025, SEGi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), formalising a strategic partnership in research, academic exchange, and joint supervision of students. This collaboration aims to drive high-impact research, foster innovation, and elevate global learning experiences.
The partnership focuses on cutting-edge research in mechanical engineering and sustainable environmental engineering, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable solutions in a rapidly evolving world. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), 40% of global CO₂ emissions come from industrial processes, underscoring the urgent need for engineering advancements that prioritise environmental sustainability. By working together, SEGi and PUP aim to contribute research that supports global climate action and technological innovation.
Academic collaboration remains a key driver of higher education excellence, and this MoU will facilitate faculty and student exchanges, internships, and cross-border knowledge-sharing. Research indicates that students who engage in international academic collaborations are 60% more likely to develop global competencies and leadership skills (source: Institute of International Education). The joint supervision of graduate students and lecturer exchanges will broaden perspectives, enhance academic networks, and create new opportunities for interdisciplinary learning.
As global university rankings increasingly value international partnerships and research output, SEGi continues to position itself as a leader in global higher education and innovation. Strengthening partnerships with internationally recognised institutions like PUP not only enhances SEGi’s research ecosystem but also contributes to its development within the QS Rankings framework, supporting the university’s mission of producing world-class graduates.
Beyond academia, this collaboration promotes cross-cultural knowledge exchange, giving faculty and students the opportunity to immerse themselves in diverse educational environments. Research shows that exposure to multicultural learning experiences enhances creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, making graduates more competitive in the global job market.
This MoU reflects SEGi’s unwavering commitment to building a globally connected academic community, strengthening research capabilities, and preparing students for future challenges in a borderless world. By driving research collaboration and international academic engagement, SEGi continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education and innovation.
