Researchers from SEGi University—R. Murali, P. Chandani, P. Paraman, and S. Anamalah—have published a conceptual study in the AIP Conference Proceedings (2024), investigating how Design Thinking can assist Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in their digital transformation journey amidst the 4.0 industrial revolution.
The study highlights the challenges and opportunities posed by digital disruption, emphasising the need for corporations to evolve their strategies and for employees to remain relevant in a rapidly changing technological landscape. The researchers point out that neglecting technological advancements could lead to the downfall of even the most successful enterprises.
Focusing on Industry 4.0 technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and automation, the paper discusses how Design Thinking provides a structured approach to innovation. This methodology enables SMEs to align their business objectives with emerging technologies, fostering growth and resilience.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically:
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
