On Wednesday, 22 March 2023, SEGi University’s Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (FOEBEIT) organized an event called “Cybersecurity Awareness” to increase the level of cyber security awareness among students and elevate knowledge by inculcating positive online culture in the online community. The event took place in Auditorium A at SEGi University in Kota Damansara.
The talk was given by Edwan Mohammad Aidid, Senior Executive of Outreach & Corporate Communication Department at CyberSecurity Malaysia. The event aimed to educate attendees on the importance of cybersecurity, its changing trends, and how to safeguard against various online attacks. The one-hour session included a Q&A session at the end, allowing attendees to ask questions and clarify any doubts they may have had.
With the rise of cyber threats, it is crucial to educate individuals on the importance of cybersecurity. According to a recent study, cybercrime is expected to cost the world $10.5 trillion annually by 2025, up from $3 trillion in 2015. Additionally, a report found that 43% of cyberattacks target small businesses, and the average cost of a data breach is $3.86 million. These alarming statistics highlight the need for increased cybersecurity awareness and education.
