ESTE’23: SEGi University students make mark in engineering and technology

SEGi University students made a remarkable impact at the Engineering, Science & Technology Exhibition 2023 (ESTE’23), hosted by MAHSA University on 16 August 2023. Aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG 9) – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, SEGi students showcased their dedication to advancing sustainable innovations and impactful engineering solutions that contribute to Malaysia’s future development.

SEGi joined top institutions, including International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Sunway University, and UCSI University, with SEGi students standing out through their pioneering research projects. With 105 students presenting projects across 76 booths, SEGi students’ projects received rigorous evaluations by external industry experts from major companies like Sime Darby, KNX Training, and Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad (CIMA), underscoring SEGi’s commitment to industry collaboration and innovative learning.

SEGi’s own Addin Sufi, a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (BME) student, received the prestigious Gold Award for his project, “Five Axis CNC Milling Machine Programming Using Tool Plane Orientation Strategy to Perform Porting Process for Motorcycle Engine Head.” This achievement, mentored by Ts. Najmi Haziq, exemplifies SEGi’s dedication to real-world engineering solutions that resonate with SDG 9’s goal of fostering resilient and sustainable industrialisation. Addin’s work reflects SEGi’s emphasis on preparing graduates for high-impact contributions to industry.

In another success, SEGi’s Sara Hany, a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (BEE) student, won the Bronze Award for her project, “Real-Time Smart Infants Health Monitoring System.” Developed under the mentorship of Noor Farhana Halil, Sara’s project highlights how SEGi students drive innovation in healthcare technology—bridging engineering with solutions that address vital health needs. This aligns with SEGi’s goal to equip students with skills that contribute to advancements in healthcare infrastructure and public well-being.

SEGi University’s representation at ESTE’23 demonstrated the institution’s strong alignment with SDG 9, as students showcased projects that connect academic knowledge with impactful, real-world applications. By fostering a culture of innovation and sustainable development, SEGi continues to build future leaders in engineering and technology, driving forward Malaysia’s growth in sustainable industry and infrastructure.
