The Quantity Surveying department, a part of the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment & Information Technology (FoEBEIT) at SEGi University, recently underwent a re-accreditation visit for its Bachelor of Science (Hons) Quantity Surveying (BQS) programme. Conducted by the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM) on 9 and 10 August 2023, this comprehensive evaluation aimed to ensure SEGi’s BQS programme is aligned with the standards set by BQSM and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
The re-accreditation visit brought together various stakeholders, including SEGi University’s Quantity Surveying department staff, accreditation panels from BQSM, the BQSM secretariat, External Advisory Panels, Industrial Advisory Panels, alumni, and selected active students from the BQS programme. This inclusive participation underscored the collaborative effort to assess and enhance the programme’s quality.
The primary goal of the BQSM re-accreditation visit was to thoroughly evaluate SEGi’s BQS programme, verifying its adherence to established standards. This evaluation is crucial in ensuring that students receive education of the highest calibre, aligning with industry expectations and benchmarks.
During the re-accreditation visit, a total of seven lecturers from the Quantity Surveying department, seven accreditation panels from BQSM, two secretariats from BQSM, two External Advisory Panels, and two Industrial Advisory Panels actively participated. A significant session took place, fostering meaningful interactions between the accreditation panels and students, including both alumni and current students from the Quantity Surveying program. The presence of both international and local students added a diverse perspective to the proceedings, creating a rich learning environment.
Furthermore, two sessions were dedicated to involving the management of SEGi University with the accreditation panels. These sessions aimed to facilitate transparent communication and collaboration between the university’s leadership and the accreditation authorities.
The culmination of these efforts resulted in a noteworthy achievement. Following the re-accreditation visit, the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Quantity Surveying programme received full accreditation status. This significant recognition was officially endorsed by the Mesyuarat Jawatankuasa Akreditasi (MJA) Bilangan 12 Tahun 2023 of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) on 24 October 2023.
This accomplishment not only reaffirms the programme’s commitment to excellence but also reflects SEGi University’s dedication to providing a high-quality education that meets industry standards. The collaborative spirit exhibited during the re-accreditation visit underscores the university’s ongoing pursuit of educational excellence and continuous improvement.
