SEGi University Contributes to SEN Symposium 2024, Championing Neurodiversity in the Workplace

SEGi University played a key role in the recent SEN Symposium 2024, a two-day event focused on “Enriching the lives of the neurodivergent community.” Organised by Kiwanis Malaysia Academy (KMA) in collaboration with SEGi, the symposium brought together academics, industry professionals, and policymakers to address the crucial issue of preparing neurodivergent individuals for meaningful employment.

Held on 16 and 17 November, the symposium commenced at Royale Chulan Damansara with a series of panel discussions and expert talks. Professor Datin Dr. Mariani Md Nor, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Languages, Psychology, and Music (FoELPM) at SEGi, participated as a distinguished panellist in the forum titled “The Role of Education in Preparing Neurodivergents Towards Meaningful Employment.” She emphasised the transformative power of inclusive education in equipping neurodivergent individuals with the skills and confidence to thrive in the workplace.

The symposium also facilitated crucial conversations between educators, employers, and policymakers, highlighting the importance of collaborative strategies to create sustainable employment opportunities for neurodivergent individuals. Discussions focused on the need for tailored support systems, inclusive policies, and workplace accommodations to foster a truly inclusive workforce.

On the second day, the event shifted to SEGi University, where a series of interactive workshops provided practical insights and hands-on experience. Eight undergraduate students from SEGi’s Bachelor of Education (Special Needs Education) programme actively participated in these workshops, gaining valuable knowledge and contributing to the symposium’s goals of promoting neurodiversity and inclusion.

The SEN Symposium 2024 served as a powerful platform to advocate for the rights and potential of neurodivergent individuals. SEGi University’s active involvement in this event demonstrates its commitment to fostering an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
