A group of dedicated SEGi University students recently embarked on a meaningful journey to combat hunger in their community. Their event, “The Journey to Zero Hunger,” took place on 20 July 2024 at the Pasar Seni area and involved a series of educational and interactive activities aimed at raising awareness about food insecurity and promoting sustainable food systems.
Led by student Aiswarya Devi Ravichandran, under the guidance of lecturer Mr Vijayasekar, the event saw six students demonstrate their commitment to making a difference. The day began with a briefing on safety measures, followed by the meticulous preparation of sandwiches for distribution. The students worked collaboratively, dividing tasks and ensuring hygiene standards were maintained throughout the process.
By 11:30 am, 60 sandwiches were ready and packed for distribution. The team tidied their workspace before departing for Pasar Seni, where they purchased drinks to accompany the food parcels. Upon arrival, they distributed the meals to homeless individuals in the area, engaging in conversations and offering companionship alongside nourishment.
The “Journey to Zero Hunger” event was a resounding success, not only providing sustenance to those in need but also raising awareness about the importance of addressing hunger and promoting sustainable food practices. The students’ dedication and compassion shone throughout the day, leaving a positive impact on the community and inspiring further action towards a world free from hunger.
