Tristan Brendon Tann, Deputy Principal at Imperial International School Ipoh, navigates the hallways with a quiet confidence, a leader who knows his purpose. Tristan’s commitment to his own growth was recognised with a scholarship, allowing him to fully immerse himself in his studies. The Master’s programme at SEGi University itself proved transformative. Modules like Strategic Leadership in Education and Digital Technologies in Education resonated deeply, providing him with practical skills and a framework for analysing challenges and finding innovative solutions. His research on strategic leadership practices in a multicultural school further deepened his understanding of the Malaysian education system.

“Start by setting realistic goals and exploring flexible learning options,” he advises. “Remember, it’s not just about earning a degree; it’s about broadening your perspective and opening up new opportunities.” He reflects on his own experience, acknowledging the challenges while emphasising the rewards. “My journey wasn’t without challenges, but the support of colleagues, mentors, and family made it manageable. Surround yourself with people who believe in your potential and remind yourself that growth often happens outside your comfort zone.”

Today, as Deputy Principal, he seamlessly blends his practical experience with academic insights, fostering a positive school environment where every student feels seen and heard. He aims to create a space where “learning is engaging, leadership is encouraged at every level, and values like resilience and collaboration are nurtured.” His hope is that every student who passes through the school doors leaves not only with a strong academic foundation but also with the confidence and skills to lead in whatever path they choose.
