Groundbreaking Research on Sustainable Buildings Wins Best Oral Presenter Award

SEGi University proudly participated in the prestigious International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Green Technology 2024 (ISEGT 2024), held from 15–18 December 2024 at the Millennium Hilton Bangkok, Thailand. Co-organised by Universiti Malaya and Chulalongkorn University, the conference brought together experts and researchers to discuss the latest innovations in sustainable energy and green technology.

Representing SEGi University, Ir. Tai Vin Cent and Ts. Cheong Kuen Hou presented their award-winning research titled “Comparative CFD Analysis of Natural Cross Ventilation Performance in Factory Buildings: The Impact of Ridge Vent Installation.” This pioneering study, which was funded by the FRGS Grant Scheme, explores the impact of ridge vent installations on natural ventilation in factory buildings in Malaysia using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The research has significant implications for the design of energy-efficient, sustainable industrial buildings, supporting the development of more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient construction practices.

The study, led by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Moey Lip Kean and co-researched by a team including Dr. Go Tze Fong, Prof. Ir. Dr. Kamarul Arifin Ahmad, and Ts. Dr. Nor Faiza Abd Rahman, earned the prestigious Best Oral Presenter Award. This recognition highlights SEGi University’s commitment to advancing sustainable building technologies and contributing to global sustainability goals.

In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7, Affordable and Clean Energy, the research contributes to the drive for energy-efficient buildings, which play a crucial role in reducing energy consumption and enhancing sustainability. Furthermore, the study supports SDG 9, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by fostering innovative solutions for the industrial sector. It also contributes to SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, by promoting sustainable urban infrastructure that supports healthy and efficient living environments.

SEGi’s participation in ISEGT 2024 not only showcases its academic excellence but also reinforces its leadership in advancing research that has real-world applications for a sustainable future. The university’s involvement in such high-profile international platforms positions it as a key player in the global movement towards greener, more sustainable practices in both industry and education.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):

SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy

SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
