SEGi University continues to set the benchmark in experiential learning with a recent study tour to the renowned Gardenia Factory in Shah Alam. Led by esteemed faculty members Dilashenyi Devi and Dr Sudhashini Nair from the Faculty of Business, Accounting & Law, this visit provided students with an invaluable opportunity to witness real-world business operations in action.
Bridging the gap between theory and practice, the study tour offered firsthand exposure to essential business concepts such as supply chain management, production efficiency, and corporate governance. With Gardenia producing over 2 million loaves of bread daily to meet market demands, students observed the complexities of high-volume production, quality control, and logistics in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This hands-on experience reinforced classroom learning and deepened their understanding of operational efficiency.
Industry visits like these are instrumental in preparing students for the workforce. Studies show that 73% of employers prefer graduates with practical industry experience (World Economic Forum, 2023), highlighting the importance of such initiatives. By engaging with professionals at Gardenia, students gained insights into best practices in inventory management, automation, and sustainability-driven business strategies, aligning with global trends in responsible manufacturing.
Beyond business operations, the visit emphasised the role of technology and innovation in sustaining competitive advantage. With the food manufacturing sector contributing RM21.76 billion to Malaysia’s GDP in 2022 (Department of Statistics Malaysia), understanding industry best practices is crucial for future business leaders. Students witnessed how Gardenia integrates advanced production technologies while maintaining stringent quality assurance processes, ensuring consumer trust and brand loyalty.
This initiative is part of SEGi University’s continuous efforts to equip graduates with industry-relevant knowledge and practical exposure, preparing them to navigate the evolving business landscape with confidence. Gardenia’s commitment to high-quality standards and sustainable practices resonated with SEGi’s vision of producing competent, future-ready graduates. The university extends its appreciation to Gardenia for the warm hospitality and invaluable insights shared during the visit.
