In a continued effort to drive international academic collaboration and prepare students for the global digital economy, SEGi University recently welcomed students from the University of Limoges, France, as part of the Internship Mobility Programme under the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and Information Technology (FoEBEIT). The initiative reflects SEGi’s commitment to building future-ready graduates while strengthening strategic industry-academia partnerships across borders.
As part of the programme, Associate Professor Dr Norriza Hussin and Dr Aida Maryani Abd Rashid conducted professional visits to two Malaysian tech companies where the French students were placed. Lansana, who interned at Hata Technologies in August 2024, demonstrated strong progress in applying classroom theory to real-world tech projects, while Leo’s internship with Magnus Games Studio in May 2025 showcased his hands-on contributions to game development and digital innovation. These experiences not only enriched the students’ understanding of Malaysia’s fast-evolving tech industry but also strengthened bilateral ties between France and Malaysia in the field of education and technology.
The IT Internship Programme is a core component of SEGi’s curriculum, equipping final-year students with essential real-world experience. This initiative forms part of a broader institutional mission to globalise student learning and career preparedness. As reported by the International Labour Organization (ILO), young people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed than adults. Programmes like this directly address such employability gaps by offering students practical exposure, global insights, and valuable industry mentorship.
The collaboration with the University of Limoges is also aligned with SEGi’s strategic goal to position Malaysia as a destination for high-quality international education. According to the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia currently hosts over 131,000 international students and aims to reach 250,000 by 2025. These kinds of global internship pathways allow SEGi to stand at the forefront of this vision, connecting local industries with international talent while fostering intercultural exchange.
A note of appreciation was extended to Hata Technologies’ KK Chong and Magnus Games Studio’s KC Wong for their unwavering support in mentoring the interns. Their role is vital in transforming classrooms into career-launching platforms—one student, one project at a time. These partnerships exemplify how academia and industry can co-create meaningful learning experiences that respond to the demands of the global digital economy.
This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
