Visionaries Unite to Tackle Global Blindness

Fakhruddin Shamsheer Barodawala, senior lecturer at the Faculty of Optometry and Vision Sciences, SEGi University, recently represented SEGi and the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) at the Association of Optometric Contact Lens Educators (AOCLE) Meeting hosted by Marshall B. Ketchum University and Southern College of Optometry.

The gathering brought together industry leaders who shared innovations and future directions in optometry, providing educators with invaluable updates to enhance curricula and teaching practices. Fakhruddin presented on IACLE’s latest activities and resources, contributing to global knowledge-sharing in the field.

Beyond the conference, Fakhruddin gained critical insights through clinical visits and shadowing at Ketchum Health Clinic in Orange County, In Focus – Specialty Contact Lens and Vision Solutions in Arizona, and First Sight Vision Care in Baltimore. He also reconnected with SEGi alumna Fadila Nour elrihen Graini in Doha, now thriving under Dr Nabila Al-Tamimi at Hamad Medical Corporation. According to the World Health Organization, over 2.2 billion people globally suffer from vision impairment, underscoring the need for continuous innovation in optometry education and practice.

These experiences strengthen SEGi’s commitment to advancing eye health, fostering professional growth, and preparing future-ready graduates equipped to tackle global healthcare challenges. This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
