SEGi University proudly celebrates a momentous milestone as Datin Prof. Dr. Mariani Binti Md Nor, Dean of the Faculty of Education, was invited to address Parliament Malaysia on critical issues affecting the Early Childhood Education (ECE) sector. Her presentation sparked national attention as she highlighted urgent gaps in access, teacher training, and policy support, further cementing her role as a leading voice in education reform and advocacy.
In her address, Prof. Mariani called for equitable access to quality preschool education, particularly for marginalised and rural communities. She underscored the pressing need for structured, ongoing teacher development to equip educators with updated pedagogical tools and inclusive practices. Her recommendations aligned with international benchmarks for early learning quality and sustainability, amplifying the call for increased government investment in Malaysia’s youngest learners.
With over two decades of academic leadership, Prof. Mariani’s impact has reached far beyond lecture halls. Her work at SEGi has shaped generations of future educators through innovative curriculum design, field research, and strategic partnerships across the public and private sectors. Her appearance in Parliament was not merely symbolic—it represented the bridge between academia, community needs, and national policy, guided by a vision of inclusive, child-centred education.
Globally, access to early childhood education remains a challenge. According to UNESCO, more than 175 million children are not enrolled in pre-primary education, with disparities most severe in low-income regions. In Malaysia, while efforts are growing, the quality and reach of ECE services remain inconsistent, especially in underserved areas. Prof. Mariani’s address brought these realities into focus and challenged policymakers to respond with actionable, long-term solutions.
As an advocate for child rights, inclusive education, and sustainable development, Prof. Mariani continues to inspire a new generation of educators and policymakers. Her Parliament engagement reflects SEGi’s broader commitment to producing graduates and leaders who are socially conscious, research-driven, and purpose-led.
