Jian Hong Lee Scales Tech Innovation from SEGi to Southeast Asia’s Startup Scene

A strong foundation in computer science and entrepreneurship has empowered Jian Hong Lee to take bold steps in Malaysia’s growing digital economy. As a graduate of SEGi University & Colleges (2005–2009) in Computer Science, Jian has contributed to Southeast Asia’s tech ecosystem through co-founding and operating Vhcex, a platform that explored digital innovation in financial technology.

Between February 2018 and August 2019, Jian served as Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Vhcex, leading strategic operations and product management during its early development phase. While the company was relatively short-lived, it provided Jian with valuable hands-on experience in building and scaling a digital startup — especially in the highly competitive and regulated space of digital trading platforms.

Jian pursued his advanced studies at Staffordshire University (2009–2011), where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Combined with his earlier academic journey at SEGi, his training has equipped him with a deep understanding of software development, system integration, and user-focused tech solutions — all critical to leading a tech-driven venture in today’s marketplace.

Today, Jian is based in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, operating in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) and ASEAN regions. His CB Rank of 305,992 reflects visibility within startup and venture capital ecosystems. He remains connected to Malaysia’s entrepreneurial scene, advocating for the adoption of practical tech solutions that support digital transformation across industries.

Jian’s story reflects the increasing number of Malaysian graduates who are stepping into innovation leadership roles. According to the Malaysian Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL), digital economy contributions to national GDP are expected to reach 25.5% by 2025, with tech talent like Jian playing a pivotal role in this growth trajectory.

His journey also illustrates how SEGi’s School of Information Technology (SoIT) cultivates forward-looking, globally competent graduates ready to lead in areas such as software engineering, system architecture, and tech entrepreneurship.
