Young changemakers, educators, government officials, and members of the public gathered on 3 August 2025 for a powerful Environmental Concert themed “End Plastic Pollution by 2040”, co-organised by ASEZ WAO (Save the Earth from A to Z – We Are One) and SEGi University. Held at Auditorium A, the event seamlessly blended culture, education, and advocacy to inspire urgent environmental action.
The goal was clear: raise awareness and strengthen collective commitment to tackling plastic pollution — a crisis that has escalated into one of the planet’s most pressing threats. According to the United Nations, the world produces over 430 million tonnes of plastic annually, with two-thirds being short-lived products that quickly become waste. Without intervention, plastic in oceans is expected to triple by 2040.
SEGi University served as the venue for an afternoon of impactful dialogue, creative expression, and institutional collaboration. From cultural exhibitions and plastic handcrafting activities to high-level speeches and panel discussions, the concert created a multi-sensory, educational space that resonated deeply with attendees. A key highlight was the signing of an MoU between ASEZ WAO Malaysia and the Fire and Rescue Department of Putrajaya, symbolising a joint commitment to reduce plastic usage and champion sustainable practices.
Through panel talks, musical interludes, and performances by the ASEZ WAO Chamber Orchestra and Quartets, the event showcased how environmental messaging can reach hearts and minds when paired with creativity. Youth-led panels explored local solutions and behavioural shifts, while academic experts shared insights into society’s complex relationship with plastic — both as a modern convenience and a long-term pollutant.
This initiative reflects SEGi’s role as a platform for driving awareness and behavioural change through partnerships that extend beyond the classroom. It also highlights the importance of intergenerational and cross-sector collaboration, especially in working toward the UN-led goal of reducing plastic waste by 80% by 2040. By fostering environmental literacy through student engagement and expert dialogue, the event amplified the power of education in shaping responsible global citizens.
This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
SDG 4 – Quality Education
SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
SDG 13 – Climate Action
