Innovate and Elevate: An Evening with Stars That Closed Technovation Week 2025

Technovation Week 2025 concluded not with a full stop, but with a statement. Innovate and Elevate: A Hi Tea Gathering marked the grand closing ceremony of the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology Technovation Week, bringing together students, academics, alumni and invited guests for an evening that celebrated ideas, effort and the spirit of engineering innovation. Held on Friday, 5 December 2025 at Space Hub, the event offered a refined yet purposeful close to a week dedicated to technological exploration, interdisciplinary learning and student led excellence. The setting itself reflected the intent of the evening. Professional, forward looking and designed for connection. Framed around the theme An Evening with Stars, the gathering balanced elegance with meaning. The programme opened with a piano performance by Isreal Akinyode from the Bachelor of Civil Engineering, followed by a doa recitation led by Tengku Faris. Together, these moments set a reflective and dignified tone, reminding the audience that innovation is not only technical, but also human. The welcome address was delivered by Ng Nii Chien, President of the IEM Student Chapter. In his remarks, he emphasised the importance of cultivating innovation, leadership and professional readiness among engineering students, particularly in a rapidly evolving global landscape where adaptability and ethical responsibility matter as much as technical skill. This was followed by a welcome speech from Muhammad Fazrulilahi Bin Abdul Rahman, Chairman of Technovation Week 2025. Reflecting on the week long programme, he highlighted the collective effort behind Technovation Week and the platform it provided for students to showcase research, creativity and applied problem solving. His remarks reinforced the purpose of Technovation Week as more than an event series, positioning it instead as a learning ecosystem that encourages experimentation and collaboration. A key highlight of the evening was the technical sharing session by Tan Wai Hong, an alumnus of the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology at SEGi University. Drawing from industry experience, his talk bridged academic learning with professional realities, offering students practical insight into career pathways, expectations and the importance of continuous learning. The session also underscored the value of alumni engagement in shaping relevant and future ready engineering education. Recognition took centre stage during the award presentation ceremony. The Dean’s Awards, TECHSIC 2025 Awards and Technovation Poster Excellence Awards for Final Year Project and Integrated Design Project 2025 celebrated students who demonstrated academic excellence, innovation and leadership through their work. These recognitions reflected the faculty’s commitment to rewarding not only results, but also initiative, creativity and real world relevance. The evening concluded with lucky draws and a relaxed networking session, allowing students, lecturers and alumni to connect beyond formal roles. Conversations flowed easily, reinforcing a sense of community and shared purpose within the faculty. Innovate and Elevate: A Hi Tea Gathering served as a fitting conclusion to Technovation Week 2025. It left attendees inspired and reaffirmed the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology’s commitment to nurturing innovation, academic excellence and future engineering leaders who are prepared to contribute meaningfully to society. This event supports the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure By promoting student innovation, technical excellence and industry engagement through projects, talks and showcases. SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities By encouraging engineering solutions that address urban development, infrastructure resilience and community wellbeing.
