Great leadership shapes great doctors, and today, we are honoured to welcome a true visionary to the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences. Major General Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohd Zin Bidin (R) brings a wealth of experience, innovation, and dedication to medical education.
Major General Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohd Zin Bidin (R) is more than a distinguished academic—he is a builder of institutions, a pioneer in medical education, and a leader who has transformed the field of medicine in Malaysia. As the founding Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Defence Health at the National Defence University of Malaysia, Major General Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohd Zin Bidin (R) established the faculty from the ground up.
His leadership encompassed everything from curriculum development and faculty recruitment to facility design and accreditation, ensuring a robust foundation for future medical professionals.
In addition to his roles in academia, Major General Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohd Zin Bidin (R) has held prestigious leadership positions, including Chief Medical Officer for the Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix and Chair of Malaysia’s National Sports Institute. His accolades include the Fabulous Global Education Leaders Award (2019) and Education Excellence Awards (2015). These achievements underscore his strategic vision, commitment to innovation, and relentless pursuit of excellence.
Major General Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohd Zin Bidin (R)’s military background as a Major General has further sharpened his strategic leadership abilities, allowing him to bring a unique perspective to his role. His expertise spans public health, tropical medicine, aerospace medicine, and occupational health, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach to modern medical education.
As we welcome Major General Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohd Zin Bidin (R) to this new role effective 4 February 2025, we also express our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Dr. Raili Suhaili for his exceptional service as Dean. Professor Raili’s visionary leadership was pivotal in establishing the Sibu Campus, where he will continue as Associate Dean, contributing to its growth and success. His efforts have been instrumental in enhancing clinical exposure opportunities through the school’s exclusive partnership with Sibu Hospital.
