In a country where youth engagement in politics is more crucial than ever, few leaders exemplify the intersection of education, strategy, and service like YB Chua Wei Kiat. A proud alumnus of SEGi College and graduate of the University of Abertay Dundee in Scotland, Chua is the current Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly for Rawang, representing the People’s Justice Party (PKR) under the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
His political journey began early. Joining PKR in 2008, Chua steadily rose through the ranks, distinguishing himself through his leadership in the party’s youth wing, Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK). In 2021, he was appointed Selangor AMK Chief, where he played a key role in reaching younger demographics and voicing youth-centric issues in the national discourse.
His electoral performance has been nothing short of commanding. In the 2018 Selangor state election, Chua secured a landslide victory with 76.91% of the vote. He retained his seat in 2023, increasing his vote majority to 25,658 — a clear sign of growing public trust in his leadership and vision.
What makes Chua’s journey especially noteworthy is the foundation he built in higher education. Starting with a Diploma in Business Administration from SEGi College, he gained valuable exposure to business strategy, communication, and critical thinking. These skills were further honed during his Bachelor’s studies in Business and Marketing at Abertay Dundee, equipping him with both local and global perspectives. Today, those competencies translate directly into policy advocacy, constituency service, and strategic public communication.
Chua’s current role as the deputy information chief of PKR sees him actively shaping the party’s narratives and strategic messaging. His political engagement goes hand in hand with thought leadership — he also serves as Executive Director of the Centre of Regional Strategic Studies (CROSS), an independent think tank focused on policy development and sustainable regional growth.
In his legislative capacity, Chua has been instrumental in spearheading local development in Rawang. His initiatives focus on infrastructure upgrades, economic empowerment, and improved access to public services. He has worked to bridge the gap between state administration and the grassroots, embodying the values of servant leadership.
His political career is part of a larger trend — where education and real-world impact align. A recent SEGi internal graduate outcomes review highlights that nearly 1 in 3 SEGi alumni now occupy leadership or strategic roles within five years of graduation. Chua stands as a testament to how strong academic foundations can drive public service and national development.
As Malaysia looks to the future, leaders like Chua Wei Kiat reflect the aspirations of a new generation — well-educated, forward-thinking, and deeply rooted in their communities. His journey inspires students across the nation to recognise that impactful change begins in the classroom and continues in the corridors of influence.
