A significant milestone has been achieved in advancing international academic collaboration with the pre-approval of a Postgraduate Taught (PGT) progression partnership between SEGi University and the University of Nottingham UK. This agreement paves the way for SEGi graduates to seamlessly transition into Master of Science programmes at one of the world’s top universities, reinforcing SEGi’s commitment to global academic excellence.
The University of Nottingham UK delegation, comprising Dr Lucy Rose, Dr Chris Wood, and Prof Kathy Johnson, visited SEGi University on 25 February 2025 to further discussions on the partnership. Engaging with SEGi’s Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and Information Technology (FOEBEIT) leadership, the visit included comprehensive deliberations on academic alignment, research collaborations, and student mobility opportunities. The delegation also toured SEGi’s state-of-the-art engineering laboratories, affirming the university’s robust infrastructure and commitment to delivering industry-relevant education.
Expanding global education pathways is essential, particularly in engineering fields, where international exposure and cutting-edge research opportunities provide graduates with a competitive edge. The University of Nottingham UK ranks among the top 100 universities worldwide (QS World University Rankings 2024), making this partnership a valuable gateway for SEGi students to pursue world-class postgraduate education. With engineering contributing more than 18% to Malaysia’s GDP (Department of Statistics Malaysia, 2023), fostering highly skilled professionals through international collaboration is imperative in driving national and global innovation.
Final-year engineering students at SEGi University benefitted from an exclusive briefing session with the visiting delegation, gaining firsthand insights into postgraduate application processes, academic timelines, and student life at Nottingham. Enhancing global mobility for students is a crucial step towards meeting the increasing demand for highly qualified engineers. According to UNESCO, international student mobility has grown by over 70% in the past two decades, highlighting the importance of strategic university partnerships in facilitating seamless academic transitions.
This initiative exemplifies SEGi University’s dedication to providing transformative educational experiences that align with international best practices and industry needs. Strengthening global networks ensures that students receive unparalleled academic and career opportunities, reinforcing SEGi’s position as a leading institution in higher education. With the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in its final stages, this collaboration is set to unlock greater potential for students pursuing advanced studies and professional excellence.
