Future Engineers from SEGi Take Centre Stage at ASHRAE Region XIII 27th Chapters Regional Conference

Three Mechanical Engineering students from SEGi University recently had the exceptional opportunity to participate in the ASHRAE Region XIII 27th Chapters Regional Conference (CRC) held on 16-17 August 2024 at Studio City, Macau. Supported by ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter, Varsanraaj A/L Vijayan, Pranava Kumaran Thiruganaselvan, and Ooi Wen Je joined this prestigious event, which focused on Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC&R). This participation reflects SEGi’s commitment to providing students with industry exposure and international networking opportunities, preparing them for the future of engineering.

The conference brought together students and professionals from across the region, with participants from countries such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand. Highlights included technical seminars featuring renowned speakers such as Dr. Drury B. Crawley, Director at Bentley Systems, and Ms. Melody Wong, Senior Engineer at Arup Hong Kong. The students also engaged in technical tours of iconic sites such as the Golden Reel, Indoor Waterpark, and the chiller plant at Studio City.

In addition to technical knowledge sharing, SEGi students actively participated in team-building activities alongside 150 other students from the region, creating invaluable cross-cultural connections. The conference concluded with a grand banquet dinner attended by approximately 300 participants, where students showcased their talents in vibrant performances.

This experience exemplifies SEGi University’s dedication to equipping students with the skills and global exposure needed for the rapidly evolving field of mechanical engineering. By participating in events like these, SEGi reinforces its commitment to fostering education that aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
