MEET THE PEOPLE TURNING ACCOUNTANTS INTO BUSINESS LEADERS

The Faculty of Business, Accountancy & Law at SEGi University, in collaboration with CIMA Malaysia, successfully hosted a dynamic career talk titled “Beyond Numbers: Charting Your Future with CGMA – Highlighting the Strategic, Future-Focused Side of Management Accounting” on 2 July 2025. Held at Auditorium A, the event brought together industry experts and future finance professionals to spotlight the real-world value of the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) qualification.

The session opened with an empowering message from Dean Stephen Sesaiah, who underscored the importance of adaptability and upskilling in today’s rapidly evolving financial landscape. His message set the tone for a session filled with practical insights, real-world experiences, and global career perspectives for Bachelor of Accounting and Finance students.

General Manager of Finance & Operations at A.D. Financial Group and CIMA member, Sunnie Goh Whei San, delivered a powerful keynote by sharing her personal journey from student to finance leader. Her candid reflections not only inspired but also demystified the path to becoming a strategic finance professional. Her story reinforced that management accounting is not just about crunching numbers but about driving value, innovation, and long-term growth within organisations.

CIMA Malaysia’s Business Development Specialist, Issac Ng, followed by outlining the CGMA pathway through the Finance Leadership Programme (FLP), highlighting how the globally recognised qualification opens doors to careers such as CFO, management accountant, and business analyst across multiple sectors and countries. With over 137,000 members and students in 179 countries, CIMA continues to play a vital role in shaping global finance talent.

In a show of meaningful industry engagement, HR Assistant Manager Ki Su Chia from A.D. Financial Sdn. Bhd. also offered internship placements to SEGi students—strengthening the bridge between education and employment. This initiative reflects a firm commitment to producing career-ready graduates who are prepared to lead in the real world.

The event aligns with Malaysia’s vision to produce future-proof graduates and support sustainable economic growth through quality education and inclusive industry partnerships. As global business challenges become increasingly complex, strategic finance professionals who can analyse data, manage risk, and create long-term value are more essential than ever.
