SEGi University continues to strengthen its commitment to producing world-class engineers with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) during the BEM Convention 2024.
Held on 1st and 2nd October 2024 at FELDA Tower in Kuala Lumpur, this event brought together engineering professionals, government officials, and academia under the theme “Empowering Engineering.” SEGi’s Dean of Faculty Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology, Ir. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Yong Chai, represented the university in this significant collaboration.
This MoU ensures that SEGi University’s engineering programmes are accredited and recognized by BEM, providing students with a streamlined path toward becoming professionally recognized engineers in Malaysia.
By aligning with BEM’s rigorous standards, SEGi demonstrates its dedication to delivering industry-relevant education that meets global standards. As of 2023, BEM had over 100,000 registered engineers, underscoring the importance of partnerships like these in shaping future-ready professionals.
The collaboration not only benefits students by enhancing curriculum standards but also fosters strong ties between SEGi and industries through joint research, technical projects, and professional development opportunities. Such partnerships are crucial for equipping students with the skills necessary to drive innovation in Malaysia’s engineering sector.
This MoU signing reflects SEGi University’s mission to provide quality education that supports sustainable growth. The initiative contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), demonstrating SEGi’s leadership in fostering impactful industry-academia collaborations.
