SEGi University’s “Gift of Sight” (GOS) programme is changing lives with its latest success—screening 570 underserved students over three days and providing 375 students with free spectacles. Aimed at ensuring children have the clear vision needed for academic success, this initiative, in collaboration with the Mah Sing Foundation and Rotary Club of USJ, demonstrates the tangible impact of partnerships in driving sustainable change.
The GOS programme takes a proactive approach by training teachers to conduct basic eye screenings in schools. Students requiring further assessments are brought to SEGi University for comprehensive eye examinations conducted by optometry students under the guidance of qualified professionals. Glasses are then provided free of charge within 2-5 weeks, removing financial barriers to essential eye care services.
By improving vision, the initiative empowers students to achieve their fullest potential, directly contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education. Vision correction doesn’t just improve eyesight; it enhances a child’s ability to learn, participate, and thrive.
The Gift of Sight programme is a shining example of what can be achieved through collaboration. Partnerships with the Mah Sing Foundation and Rotary Club of USJ highlight the power of collective effort, aligning with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Together, these organisations combine resources and expertise to create meaningful, sustainable impact in communities that need it most.
This initiative also reflects SEGi University’s commitment to social responsibility and academic excellence. By bridging education and community care, SEGi continues to empower future-ready changemakers who contribute to the betterment of society.
This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
