SEGi University Lecturer Among Few Malaysians on Editorial Board of Elite Global Journal

Dr. Ong Chuan Huat, CMktr, Senior Lecturer at SEGi Graduate School of Business, has been appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management (JHMM), one of the most prestigious journals globally in the fields of hospitality, marketing, and tourism. Published by Routledge/Taylor & Francis, JHMM is ranked in the top 2% of all hospitality journals worldwide with a current impact factor of 12.5, and is indexed by SSCI and Scopus.

This elite appointment—endorsed by Editor-in-Chief Professor Dr. Dogan Gursoy, Regents Professor and Changjiang (Yangtze River) Scholar—recognises Dr. Ong’s academic influence and thought leadership. He is currently serving his second consecutive term (2025–2026), having first been invited in 2024. Editorial board seats in such high-impact journals are fiercely competitive, with fewer than 5% held by Southeast Asian academics. Dr. Ong’s appointment represents a significant step forward for regional representation and global scholarly inclusion.

A Chartered Marketer (CMktr), Dr. Ong is one of fewer than 20 individuals in Malaysia to hold this professional designation awarded by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. His rare combination of academic and professional distinction reinforces SEGi University’s positioning as a rising global institution known for nurturing real-world impact through academic excellence. His work spans strategic marketing, consumer behaviour, and sustainable service innovation—key areas aligned with 21st-century industry needs.

Editorial board members of SSCI-ranked journals are responsible for shaping the academic direction of entire disciplines. Through this platform, the SEGi scholar now plays a role in setting the global research agenda, reviewing the world’s top marketing and hospitality manuscripts, and mentoring upcoming scholars across continents. This not only enhances academic visibility, but also places SEGi at the core of cutting-edge research networks.

SEGi University continues to gain international attention, recently ranked in the 731–740 band globally by the QS World University Rankings 2026 and placed among the Top 100 worldwide for faculty-student ratio. Having a scholar of Dr. Ong’s calibre recognised on the global stage reinforces the university’s growing reputation as a destination for forward-thinking, globally connected higher education.

In a world increasingly driven by knowledge economies, global editorial leadership reflects not only academic merit, but also a university’s commitment to quality, influence, and sustainability. SEGi’s investment in talent development and international engagement ensures that Malaysian scholars not only participate in global dialogues—but help lead them.
