SEGi University has taken a significant step towards advancing STEM education through a strategic collaboration with Sasbadi Learning Solutions Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of Sasbadi Holdings, which is renowned for its dedication to promoting hands-on learning via effective educational tools and dynamic platforms.
This partnership, solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on 30 May 2024, aims to enhance STEM programmes and activities, particularly in engineering, built environment, and information technology. This initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
The MOU was signed at SEGi University by Prof. Chm Dr. Teh Geok Bee Fasc, Vice Chancellor of SEGi University, and Kevin Ma, Director of Sasbadi Learning Solutions Sdn. Bhd., in the presence of Ir. Prof. Dr. Tan Yong Chai, Faculty Dean, and Muhammad Faiz, Senior Manager of Sasbadi Learning Solutions. This partnership will spearhead various STEM-related activities, including workshops, seminars, talks, and the organisation of the National Robotics Open Competition. This competition will cater to students from national, private, and international schools, including those from Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM), aged between 7 and 19.
The collaboration will involve Train of Trainers (TOT) programmes for educators and students, promoting continuous professional development and fostering a culture of lifelong learning. Additionally, webinars, seminars, and workshops will be conducted to disseminate cutting-edge knowledge and skills, preparing students to excel in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. These initiatives are in line with SDG 4, which emphasises inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all.
One of the highlights of this collaboration is the annual robotics competitions, which will provide a platform for students to showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills. The National Robotics Competition (NROC) will target Malaysian public schools, while the National Robotics Open Competition (NROC) will include participants from private and international schools.
Moreover, the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Malaysia will be part of these competitions, encouraging younger students to engage with STEM concepts through fun and interactive challenges. These competitions are expected to significantly boost interest in STEM fields, aligning with SDG 9 by fostering innovation and building resilient infrastructure.
