The Education Revolution No University Can Afford to Ignore

Dr Sudhashini Nair, Senior Lecturer from the Faculty of Business, Accountancy and Law, SEGi University, was invited as a speaker at the prestigious International Colloquium Series on Professional Development and Leadership Enhancement, organised by Shinawatra University, International Affairs, Thailand on 22 August 2025. The 5th edition of the series, themed “Teaching for Tomorrow: Integrating Critical Thinking and Creativity Across Disciplines”, united academic leaders and educators from across Asia to explore innovative practices that will define the future of education.

Speaking on the topic of Using AI to Integrate Critical Thinking and Creativity Across Disciplines, Dr Sudhashini highlighted the importance of combining technology, pedagogy, and real-world relevance to prepare students for rapidly changing global demands. She emphasised that AI should not be confined to content delivery but must be leveraged as a transformative tool that fosters deeper thinking, imaginative problem-solving, and the ability to connect knowledge across disciplines.

This emphasis resonates with global trends. According to the World Economic Forum, critical thinking and creativity are ranked among the top five skills employers will demand by 2025. At the same time, UNESCO reports that over 90% of countries are now prioritising digital skills integration into their education systems. By addressing both, the talk underscored how higher education can evolve to produce graduates who are not only technologically adept but also innovative thinkers capable of shaping industries and societies.

The colloquium also featured distinguished contributions from academics including Dr Irfan Ullah Stanikzai from Afghanistan and Dr Aurelio Jr S Gomez from the Philippines, both of whom reinforced the importance of blending creativity with critical thinking in curricula. Their collective insights underscored the global urgency of rethinking education in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, where automation and AI are expected to disrupt nearly 85 million jobs while creating 97 million new ones.

SEGi’s representation in such platforms reflects the institution’s mission of aligning academic excellence with forward-looking strategies that empower students for leadership in tomorrow’s workplace. Engagement in international dialogues not only raises the institution’s profile but also strengthens its commitment to embedding critical skills that support sustainable growth and inclusive development.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
