A group of 30 enthusiastic students from SMK Infant Jesus Convent, Johor, visited SEGi University on 11 April 2025 to participate in an insightful IT Career Talk and Programme Briefing held in the VC Room. The session, led by Ruffinus Rusell Anak Magar and Safwan Abd Razak, aimed to expose students to the dynamic world of Information Technology while offering guidance on academic pathways that align with future career aspirations.
The visit formed part of SEGi’s commitment to early talent development, giving secondary school students an opportunity to explore potential professions in the tech industry and understand how digital transformation is shaping the global economy. The engaging session covered real-world career opportunities in areas such as software engineering, cybersecurity, and data analytics—sectors that are expected to see exponential growth in the coming decade.
According to the World Economic Forum, 75% of businesses globally are expected to adopt big data, cloud computing, and AI by 2027, with more than 69 million new digital jobs likely to be created. Offering young students a glimpse into this evolving landscape is key to helping them make informed decisions about their future and encouraging them to pursue skills that are highly sought after in today’s economy.
The speakers shared valuable insights not only about technical skills but also about the soft skills essential in thriving in the digital workforce, such as communication, problem-solving, and adaptability. The students responded with keen interest, asking questions and engaging in discussions that reflected their curiosity and eagerness to learn.
SEGi continues to champion initiatives that connect education with industry trends, bridging the gap between what is taught in the classroom and what the workforce demands. By hosting career exploration sessions like this, the university reaffirms its role as a catalyst for preparing the next generation of digital leaders.
This session also underscores the importance of inclusive and quality education in building sustainable career pipelines for youth, especially in emerging tech-driven economies like Malaysia. By empowering students early with knowledge and exposure, SEGi plays a part in shaping a future-ready generation equipped to contribute meaningfully to national and global development.
