SEGi University recently took a bold step forward in preparing its students for real-world success with a dynamic Career Talk and Resume Writing Workshop held on 18 June 2025. Organised by the Faculty of Business, Accountancy & Law in collaboration with YYC Advisors Malaysia, the session was specially curated for Bachelor of Accounting & Finance students, equipping them with both industry knowledge and practical employability skills.
The session opened with a strong message from Dr Stephen Sesaiah, Dean of the Faculty, who stressed the importance of continuous professional growth as a key to thriving in today’s competitive global market. The event then featured engaging insights from Joshua James Theseira, Senior Executive in Talent Acquisition, who introduced YYC Advisors’ mission and services—highlighting their integral role in Malaysia’s growing financial landscape. According to the Malaysian Department of Statistics, the professional services sector remains one of the country’s fastest growing industries, with over 5.5% growth annually since 2020.
A standout moment came from Tax Director Tommy Chan Yoke Thean, who gave students a behind-the-scenes look at a career in tax, delving into niche areas like stamp duty audits and how evolving tax regulations demand adaptive, ethical professionals. With the global call for financial transparency and good governance increasing, such real-world insights are crucial in shaping students to meet international standards.
To build on this momentum, the YYC Talent Acquisition team conducted an in-depth resume writing workshop tailored to the expectations of top employers. Penny Chong Pei Ni, Lilian Tee Li Yen, Joshua James Theseira, and Leong Shin Yoong guided students through crafting impactful CVs that reflect both academic achievements and marketable soft skills. This hands-on session offered personalised feedback and highlighted resume strategies that are often overlooked yet essential in a digitally competitive recruitment space.
The workshop proved transformative for many students, offering clarity on career trajectories, practical exposure to industry expectations, and the confidence to present themselves as competent, job-ready graduates. As of 2023, 85% of employers worldwide consider soft skills and a well-structured CV as key hiring criteria, on par with academic qualifications.
This industry-academia collaboration reflects SEGi’s forward-thinking approach to education—where learning goes beyond the classroom to ensure students are not only informed, but future-ready.
This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
