Two Students, Two Inventions, One Big Leap for Innovation

SEGi University made a strong statement in innovation and academic excellence at the Engineering, Science, and Technology Exhibition 2025 Series 1 (ESTE’25 S1), held at MAHSA University on 5 February 2025. Among participants from top institutions such as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA, and UCSI University, SEGi stood out with award-winning projects that reflected both creativity and a real-world understanding of digital advancement.

Two final-year IT students from the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and Information Technology showcased cutting-edge solutions that pushed the boundaries of AI and cybersecurity. Yong Wai Meng captured the Gold Award with Blink Wallet, an AI-powered face recognition digital payment solution, integrating multi-layered security through biometrics and intelligent verification. As digital payment fraud continues to rise globally — with projected losses exceeding USD 362 billion by 2028 — such innovations represent timely and much-needed technological interventions.

Meanwhile, Adam Tarek El Hejaji received the Silver Award for his Raspberry Pi VPN Travel Router, offering a secure, portable solution for private browsing. With global concerns around data privacy intensifying, and VPN usage rising by 30% annually, the project’s relevance and real-world application could not be clearer. His creation demonstrates how low-cost, scalable tech can protect digital rights in an increasingly connected world.

These achievements not only celebrate the technical brilliance of SEGi students but also underscore the institution’s strategic direction in aligning education with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of innovation, infrastructure, and digital accessibility. By integrating emerging technologies into student-led research, SEGi empowers graduates to become problem-solvers who address real societal challenges.

The university’s presence at ESTE’25 S1 further cements its role as a forward-thinking institution that bridges academia with industry. Through strong mentorship and a focus on innovation, SEGi continues to equip students with the tools to lead in a future shaped by digital transformation and ethical tech leadership.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
