Pharmacy students proudly showcased their athletic spirit at the 18th MyPSA National Pharmacy Sport Carnival (NPSC) 2025, an annual event that unites pharmacy undergraduates from across Malaysia through competition and camaraderie. Held under the theme “Pharmacy Hawks Soar Beyond the Horizon,” this year’s carnival brought together participants from 21 universities nationwide, celebrating not just athletic excellence but also the strength of unity within the future healthcare community.
SEGi University was among the strong contenders, with student Rafli Adianshah earning distinction on the track by finishing as the second runner-up in the 400-metre race. His success symbolises not only personal perseverance but also SEGi’s holistic approach to education, where students are encouraged to pursue balance between rigorous academics and active participation in sports and extracurricular pursuits.
The significance of events like NPSC extends beyond medals and records. According to the World Health Organization, physical inactivity contributes to over 5 million preventable deaths globally each year, making sport a vital driver of health and well-being. Encouraging pharmacy students to stay active reinforces the idea that healthcare professionals must first embody the healthy practices they advocate for their future patients.
The carnival also cultivated key values that go hand in hand with professional development. Teamwork, resilience, leadership, and sportsmanship were evident throughout the games, qualities that translate directly into the pharmacy profession where collaboration, discipline, and perseverance are critical in serving patient needs. Research by the European Commission shows that student participation in sports enhances employability, with 92% of employers valuing transferable skills such as teamwork and resilience.
SEGi’s participation in NPSC also highlighted the importance of inter-university networking, where students exchange experiences, build friendships, and strengthen the unity of Malaysia’s future healthcare workforce. Such platforms ensure pharmacy undergraduates grow not only as academics but as well-rounded professionals prepared to contribute to society in diverse ways.
