SEGi University made a powerful impression at the National Dental Intervarsity Games (NDIVG) 2025, bringing home an impressive nine medals – three Golds, two Silvers, and four Bronzes. Held from 18–20 April at Universiti Malaya and organised by the Malaysian Dental Students’ Association (MDSA), this prestigious event gathered the best from dental schools across Malaysia to compete in a range of athletic disciplines. For SEGi’s delegation, it wasn’t just about competition — it was about resilience, teamwork, and pushing personal boundaries.
SEGi’s Gold medal moments included standout performances in Women’s Badminton Singles by Maria Ngor Zhuang Zhi, Women’s 800m Track by Yap Yi Van, and a dominant team win in Dodgeball, with a fierce lineup featuring Tan Sei Jun, Luqman Hakeem, Bavan Saankkar, and others who delivered energy, speed, and synergy. Notably, Maria Ngor not only clinched Gold but also contributed to a Bronze in Women’s Doubles alongside Lim Zi Xin, who also captained the SEGi team.
The spirit of determination continued with Silver wins in the Women’s 5000m by Yap Yi Van and in Men’s 50m Breaststroke by Javier Choy. Bronze medals were also secured in Table Tennis, Kayaking, and Pickleball – a testament to the team’s versatility across both land and water. Each medal reflects more than just skill — it’s the product of discipline, unity, and the SEGi spirit of never settling for average.
Physical activity plays a vital role in student development. According to the World Health Organization, regular participation in sports is linked to improved mental health, cognitive function, and academic performance. Sports also promote leadership and resilience — traits crucial for future healthcare professionals. This is why SEGi continues to support platforms that blend academic growth with personal and physical excellence.
Beyond medals, the experience nurtured cross-campus friendships, boosted student confidence, and instilled a strong sense of identity and pride. Events like NDIVG give future dental professionals a unique edge — building not only their clinical knowledge but also their capacity to work under pressure, collaborate in teams, and lead with heart.
