62 Young Minds Joined ASEAN Leaders to Shape the Future of Energy and Innovation

Students and staff from the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment & Information Technology took part in the AIPA Summit 2025, held on 20 September at PWTC, Kuala Lumpur. The delegation of 62 participants joined regional leaders, academics, and industry experts in discussions centred on energy, innovation, and sustainable growth. Their active involvement positioned the university community at the heart of shaping ideas that are critical to ASEAN’s future.

The summit provided an invaluable platform for participants to exchange perspectives on the global energy transition, economic resilience, and infrastructure modernisation. With the International Energy Agency projecting that renewable energy will account for 35% of the world’s electricity generation by 2025, the theme of affordable and clean energy has never been more pressing. Students were able to connect classroom learning with these real-world issues, broadening their understanding of how engineering and technology play a transformative role in global progress.

SEGi University’s presence reflected its commitment to producing graduates who can contribute meaningfully to the global workforce. Discussions at the summit underscored the importance of creating decent work opportunities, especially as the International Labour Organization reports that nearly 430 million people worldwide lack sufficient access to productive employment. Exposure to international dialogues equips students with the awareness and skills needed to address these challenges while pursuing innovation and economic growth.

The event also highlighted the vital role of infrastructure and innovation in driving development across ASEAN nations. The World Bank has emphasised that infrastructure investment of 3–5% of GDP annually is essential for emerging economies to sustain growth. By engaging in the summit, SEGi participants gained direct insights into how engineering and technology can be harnessed to meet these critical needs, fostering a new generation of problem solvers prepared to contribute to both local and international agendas.

Participation in the AIPA Summit 2025 demonstrated the university’s focus on holistic education that extends beyond the classroom, ensuring its students are not only academically strong but also globally engaged. By bridging academic learning with policy, industry, and community impact, the initiative reflected a purposeful commitment to building future-ready leaders.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
