SEGi has taken another strategic step in elevating global academic collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shinawatra University, Thailand. The signing ceremony brought together university leaders, academics, and international affairs representatives from both institutions to formalise a shared commitment to internationalisation, research, and student mobility.
This collaboration comes at a time when the global education landscape is increasingly focused on cross-border partnerships that enrich academic quality and graduate outcomes. According to UNESCO, international student mobility has more than doubled over the past two decades, reaching over 6 million students globally in 2023. By connecting students and researchers across regions, institutions not only share knowledge but also foster cultural intelligence, innovation, and inclusivity — essential qualities in today’s interconnected workforce.
SEGi University was represented by Vice Chancellor Prof. ChM Dr Teh Geok Bee FASc, alongside key academic leaders. From Shinawatra University, President Associate Professor Dr Zhou Fei led the delegation, which included experts in research coordination and international linkages. This partnership reflects a mutual vision to drive meaningful collaboration through joint academic programmes, faculty exchanges, and cross-institutional research.
The MoU sets the foundation for student-focused initiatives that extend beyond borders. It opens pathways for students to explore diverse pedagogies, enhance employability, and gain exposure to ASEAN’s evolving knowledge economy. Research collaborations will also contribute to regional problem-solving, especially in areas like sustainability, digital transformation, and inclusive education — all aligned with global development priorities.
Both universities recognise that international cooperation is not a luxury, but a necessity for future-ready education. By building academic bridges, the partnership fosters global citizenship and prepares graduates to thrive in an economy where skills, ideas, and innovation move across borders with unprecedented speed.
This MoU is more than an agreement — it is a commitment to shaping a future where education transcends boundaries, and where students are empowered to lead, collaborate, and contribute meaningfully to a global society.
This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
SDG 4 – Quality Education
SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
