Students might have different opinions, but they do not know how to channel it. Hence, the Counselling Services had organized the peer discussions group which is a platform for students to engage with each other by reflecting, learning and practice, especially during MCO which hinder the opportunity for the students to socialize before the new normal. These peer discussions group were conducted virtually via ZOOM Meeting and were facilitated by Registered Counsellors of SEGi University.
The first peer discussion group was held on 23rd October 2020 with the topic “Toxic Relationship”. It was facilitated by Ms Alice and a total of 5 students joined this peer discussion. In this discussion, the participants shared and discussed their experience in a toxic relationship and how was it affected their self-esteem yet self-empowerment. They learned from each other’s experiences and came back stronger.
On 6th November 2020, Ms Syikin had facilitated the second peer discussion group with the topic “Are You Introvert or Extrovert?”. It was a an interesting topic as most of the participants believe that being an extrovert person has an advantage to be a good leader and standout among the crowd. However, as the world is moving towards having more introverts around, the participants realized that even an introvert person can still be a good leader and unique in their own way.
The latest peer discussion group was held on 22nd January 2021 and it was facilitated by Ms Lily with the topic “Social Media & Mental Health”. Nowadays, most of the people use social media in their daily activities and some of them experienced cyberbullying. It was a beneficial discussion as participants shared their opinions on how to cope with cyberbullies.
