SEGi University’s Centre for Pre-University recently hosted a student showcase that aligned with the university’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Held on 28 August 2024, the event highlighted student creativity, as well as their analytical and digital skills, in transforming recyclable waste into useful prototypes. The showcase aimed to raise awareness of SDG 12 and provide a platform for students to demonstrate their innovation and problem-solving abilities.
The showcase featured foundation students presenting prototypes made from recycled materials, accompanied by informative posters and websites. These posters detailed not only the environmental benefits of their creations but also explored their economic potential. The presentations were highly engaging and offered valuable insights into the connections between responsible consumption and economic sustainability, effectively promoting SDG 12 among students and the wider community.
The event successfully attracted over a hundred participants and guests from across SEGi University, and the students were divided into 25 groups. Each group presented creative solutions that linked their prototypes to environmental and economic benefits, showcasing a strong understanding of the importance of responsible consumption. The posters were thoughtfully designed, making the content visually appealing and easy to understand, which further enhanced the quality of the presentations.
The students’ dedication was evident in their well-prepared presentations and confident responses to questions from attendees. Their ability to communicate complex topics in an engaging manner demonstrated the importance of integrating practical experiences into education, aligning with SEGi’s commitment to providing holistic learning opportunities.
Throughout the three-hour event, attendees explored the prototypes, asked questions, and interacted with the students, making the showcase an enriching experience for all involved. The students’ enthusiasm and professionalism contributed significantly to the event’s success, reflecting SEGi’s commitment to fostering future-ready graduates equipped with problem-solving and communication skills.
