A mentor mentee session organised by the School of IT, SEGi College Kota Damansara, was recently conducted as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen engagement between lecturers and students while providing continuous academic and personal support. The session created a comfortable and open environment where students could share their experiences, challenges, and concerns throughout their academic journey.
Students were encouraged to openly discuss various aspects of campus life, including academic workload, time management, personal adjustments, financial considerations, and adapting to the learning environment. Acting as mentors, lecturers from the School of IT listened attentively, offered guidance, and shared practical strategies to help students navigate these challenges more effectively. The session also reinforced the message that support is always available through the school and relevant student support services.
Beyond addressing challenges, the session aimed to inspire students to take a more active role in academic and student life within the School of IT. Students were encouraged to participate in academic talks, workshops, competitions, and student activities. Emphasis was placed on the importance of extracurricular involvement in developing essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, confidence, and leadership.
The session also motivated students to be more proactive in seeking opportunities for growth, both academically and personally. By fostering open communication and trust, the mentor mentee initiative strengthened relationships between lecturers and students while cultivating a more supportive and inclusive learning environment within the School of IT community.
Overall, the session played an important role in enhancing student wellbeing and engagement, helping learners feel more supported, motivated, and confident as they progress through their studies. The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 Quality Education, reinforcing the School of IT SCKD’s commitment to holistic and student centred learning.
