The SEGi Dental Society (SDS) and the SEGi Optometry Club (SOC) collaborated to organise a weekend charity event to raise health awareness. The event, held on 17 December 2022, at Surau Al Firdaus in Gugusan Melati Kota Damansara, provided free health checkups to residents in the surrounding area.
Students and lecturers arrived at the venue at 8 a.m. and were greeted by a surau representative. The surau provided breakfast for all event participants, and the students then set up the registration counter and two dental chairs for oral screening. At the surau’s canteen, an educational booth for oral and visual awareness was set up.
The first patient arrived at 9 a.m. and registered at the counter, and the event ran smoothly throughout the day as more patients arrived for dental screenings and educational booth visits. Patients were given toothpaste and mineral water as a gift after the screening.
At 12:30 p.m., the registration counter closed, and the students cleaned up and packed everything around the surau. Before the event ended, everyone took pictures to remember it and thanked the community.
In total, 43 patients were screened for dental disease, with 39 adults and 4 children receiving free health checks. The event was a huge success, and it helped to raise awareness about the importance of good health in the local community. SEGi Dental Society and SEGi Optometry Club are already planning their next health awareness event, hoping to reach even more people in need.
