Postgraduate Students Honoured for Commitment to Lifelong Learning at SEGi

The Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and Information Technology (FOEBEIT) hosted a significant event on 3 September 2024, to honour postgraduate students for their active participation in the university’s academic and extracurricular landscape. The prestigious Continuous Self Learning Development (CSLD) Certificate Presentation ceremony marked a proud milestone for students who have demonstrated their commitment to lifelong learning and skill enhancement. This initiative is aimed at encouraging postgraduate students to not only excel academically but also build robust networks through participation in conferences, workshops, seminars, exhibitions, and competitions.

The ceremony celebrated the achievements of 16 exceptional students from various postgraduate programmes, including MSc and PhD in Engineering and MSc and PhD in IT. These students have gone beyond their academic studies by engaging in a range of activities that enrich their learning experience. Their dedication to continuous learning exemplifies SEGi University’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals prepared for future challenges in a rapidly evolving technological world.

Dr. Kanageswary Sockalingam, the Programme Leader for Postgraduate Studies (Engineering), presented the CSLD certificates to the deserving students, recognising their hard work and perseverance. She highlighted the importance of lifelong learning, especially in fields like engineering and information technology, where constant innovation drives progress. As global industries evolve, the knowledge and skills gained through such programmes are crucial for fostering innovation and preparing graduates to tackle complex problems.

Continuous self-learning is not only vital for individual success but also aligns with global development goals. According to the United Nations, education is key to achieving all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Quality Education (SDG 4), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). By encouraging students to engage in diverse learning activities, SEGi University is playing an active role in advancing these global goals and fostering the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.

The CSLD initiative reflects SEGi University’s vision to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a constantly changing world. This commitment to continuous learning, academic excellence, and global engagement ensures that SEGi students are prepared to contribute meaningfully to the future of engineering, IT, and beyond.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):

  • SDG 4: Quality Education
  • SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
