Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) 2023

Forty students and seven lecturers from the Bachelor of Art (Hons) Interior Architecture and the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Architecture recently attended the Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) 2023, an annual furniture fair which has spearheaded the local furniture trade scene for years. This year, it was held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) and World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) from 1 till 4 March 2023.

As a platform that initiates, empowers, and celebrates the diverse talents of young Malaysian designers, this fair showcased works that depict the resilience of the Malaysian post-pandemic era. The finalists of the Furniture Design Competition (FDC) 2023 also had their pieces displayed during the event.

The fair included free-entry industry seminars conducted by top industry speakers, such as Dr Eric Leong, Mr Tul Lekutai, Mr Walter Tan, Professor Dr Jegatheswaran Ratnasingam, Mr Tery Urovsky, Enrico Cleva, and Ms Roberta Mutti, among others. These gave insights, discussed the latest trends, and shared market intelligence in this post-pandemic era.

This was an extremely beneficial experience for our architecture students, giving them the opportunity to do physical observations, analyses, and to study the aspects of the ergonomics and anthropometrics of furniture design, visual communication, and other relevant elements for a better understanding of the subject of architecture.
