On 14th June 2023, members of SEGi University’s Faculty of Optometry and Vision Sciences had the privilege of conducting a vision-screening service for visually impaired and special children at SMK Kampung Jawa in Klang, Selangor. This was part of our collaboration with the Malaysian Association of the Blind (MAB), who invited us to provide this service to the students and teachers of the school.
We were joined by fifteen final-year students from the Faculty of Optometry and Vision Sciences, who assisted us in performing the visual examination. The screening consisted of assessing visual acuity, refractive error, ocular health, and functional vision. We also provided advice and referrals to the participants where necessary.
The screening was a success, as we managed to examine a total of thirty students and teachers. We received positive feedback from both the participants and the school staff, who voiced their appreciation of our efforts and professionalism. Our students also learned a lot from the various challenges and opportunities they experienced during this effort.
We would like to thank MAB and SMK Kampung Jawa for giving us this opportunity to serve the community and to enhance our skills and knowledge. We hope to continue this partnership in the future and to reach out to more people who need our help.
