Pathways in Oral Pathology: Insights from SEGi-IAOMP Symposium 1.0

SEGi University’s Faculty of Dentistry achieved a significant milestone by hosting the inaugural international event, the SEGi-IAOMP Symposium 1.0, in collaboration with the Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP), the world’s largest oral pathology association. The symposium took place on May 6, 2023, at Auditorium A, Level 2, Faculty of Dentistry, SEGi University, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The symposium focused on the theme “Odontogenic Cysts and Tumors,” aiming to enhance the knowledge and skills in the management of these conditions for general dental practitioners and undergraduates. The event featured esteemed guest speakers from Malaysia and India, offering a wealth of expertise in the field.

The symposium witnessed an overwhelming response, with more than 200 registered delegates hailing from various sectors, including the oral health division, the Ministry of Health, the Defence Department, and faculties from both public and private universities. This diverse participation highlighted the event’s broad impact and relevance in the dental community.

A distinctive feature of the symposium was the opportunity it provided for scientific oral presentations, allowing undergraduates, postgraduates, and faculty members to share their research findings and insights. This platform fostered knowledge exchange and scholarly discussions, further enriching the academic atmosphere of the event.

The success of the SEGi-IAOMP Symposium 1.0 was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the organizing committee. Under the leadership of our esteemed Dean, Dato’ Prof. Dr. Ahmad Termizi Bin Zamzuri (Organizing Chairperson), and the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Datuk Dr. Rozaidah Binti Talib (Organizing Vice Chairperson) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anand S. Tegginamani (Organizing Secretary), the event flourished. The tireless contributions of the faculty and student organizing committee, along with the invaluable support from Ms. Stella Lau Kah Wai, Prof. Dr. Azrin, Prof. Dr. Srikumar, Dr. Vincent Ng, and Mr. Jeff Tan, played a pivotal role in making this international symposium a resounding success.

The presence and wholehearted support of Prof. Dr. Azrin (Vice-Chancellor), Dr. Vincent Ng (Director, RIMC), and Dean Dato’ Prof. Dr. Ahmad Termizi Bin Zamzuri added to the event’s prestige and significance.
